Frequency: Once per season
Mode of qualification: via the average scoring system on the Canadian web site.
Player of the week: 52 players (one player a week for the season’s 52 weeks)
Player of the month: 60 players (player of the month plus positions 2, 3, 4 and 5 for each of the season’s months.)
Player of the year: 50 players (the player of the year plus positions 2 to 50 of the complete season)
Tournaments required: to be qualified, a player must play a required minimum number of tournaments for his average to be valid.
Player of the week: 2 tournaments required
Player of the month: 8 tournaments required
Player of the year: 96 tournaments required
Ratio: The ratio is comprised of 2 numbers, the first is the tournament exit position of a player and the second is the number of participants in that tournament.
Average: A player’s average is calculated from the addition of his best averages which have been calculated from his best ratios of the minimum number of tournaments required divided by these for each category such as: Player of the week, Player of the month, Player of the year.
Calculation of the average: The calculation of the average is done from the ratio. It’s done by substracting the tournament exit position of a player from the number of participants in that tournament divided by the number of players in the tournament times 100.
So, if a player finishes 5th in a 52 player tournament, the calculation will be as follow :
52 - 5 = 47
47 divided by 52 = 0.90385 X 100 = Average of 90.385
Example of the average calculation for a player in the Player of the week section:
A player plays 4 tournaments in the same week, the system will take his best 2 performances/ratio to calculate his average.
First tournament: finished 15th out of 35 players - Ratio of 15/35 which gives an average of 57.143
Second tournament: finished 1st out of 27 players - Ratio of 1/27 which gives an average of 96.297
Third tournament: finished 9th out of 42 players - Ratio of 9/42 which gives an average of 78.572
Fourth tournament: finished 2nd out of 19 players - Ratio of 2/19 which gives an average of 89.474
The 2 best averages for this player are the ones from the second and fourth tournament, so the calculation of his weekly average is done from the 96,297 and 89.474 averages.
By adding up his 2 best averages, we get 185.771
So his final weekly average will be :
185.771 divided by 2 = 92.885
Note: A player can only improve his average, because it is calculated from the best performances from the minimum number of tournaments required for each section.
